چکیده

For long-term sea level variability studies a single altimetric mission of high accuracy and long duration is the ideal situation. In reality, several altimetric missions have been flown and the corresponding sea level heights present an increasing accuracy, mainly due to the improved orbital and geophysical corrections applied to the measured data. At least one different preprocessing is used for each mission, this makes the data not homogeneous.

Estimation and Analysis of Precipitable Water Vapor Using GPS Data and Satellite Altimeter

Determination of water vapor in the atmosphere plays an important role in forecasting weather conditions and precipitation studies. For this reason, it is very important to study the tropospheric delay, especially the wet component, which is due to the presence of water vapor in the atmosphere. In this paper, the amount of water vapor was estimated by altimeter satellite radiometer and GPS data...

Recovery of sea level fields in the Mediterranean Sea for the period 1945 - 2000

The distribution of sea level in the Mediterranean Sea is recovered for the period 1945-2000 by using a reduced space optimal interpolation analysis. The method involves estimating empirical orthogonal functions from satellite altimeter data spanning the period 1993-2005 that are then combined with tide gauge data to recover sea level fields over the period 1945-2000. The reconstruction techniq...

Assimilation of radar altimeter data in numerical wave models: an impact study in two different wave climate regions

An operational assimilation system incorporating significant wave height observations in high resolution numerical wave models is studied and evaluated. In particular, altimeter satellite data provided by the European Space Agency (ESA-ENVISAT) are assimilated in the wave model WAM which operates in two different wave climate areas: the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean. The first is a win...

Sea Level Change in the Malaysian Seas from Multi-satellite Altimeter Data

The long-term sea level change during 1993 – 2008 is investigated in the Malaysian Seas from satellite altimetry data of the Topex, Jason-1, ERS-1, ERS-2 and Envisat missions. During the past two decades, satellite altimeter has provided its capability in measuring the global mean of sea level with precision better than 1 mm/year. Sea level data retrieval and reduction were carried out using Ra...

Wave height characteristics in the Mediterranean Sea by means of numerical modeling, satellite data, statistical and geometrical techniques

In this paper the main wave height characteristics in the Mediterranean Sea are studied from both observational and numerical perspectives. The numerical wave model WAM is employed on a high spatial resolution mode and in two different versions, one of which incorporates information for sea surface currents. Altimeter data obtained from all available satellite missions over the area are also ut...
